ABOUT NEON ARCADE

I'm Grant, and I'm a retro hardware technician with an extended focus on classic arcade game preservation and CRT repair, both of which I own far more than I have space for. I'm all about promoting chill, simple, lo-fi analog culture in an insane digital world.

Preservation of analog media, lost data, and old hardware is a passion of mine, to the extent that I view the curation and conservation of it as a unique culture that transcends nostalgia. I believe in the freedom to have control over the technology that you interact with, as well as the means to understand, share, and repair it. This becomes more important with each passing day.

I've been streaming on Retro Twitch regularly since 2021, where every other night I incessantly talk about the history, preservation, and hardware of difficult arcade games, bizarre Japanese PC titles, and esoteric console games, all on original hardware captured in RGB at twitch.tv/neon_arcade

Outside of Twitch, I've been a convention organizer for nearly 20 years, and have been involved with many major national and regional events to help with arcade gear and operations, while also co-founding personal projects such as TempleCon, a Retrofuturism convention that ran for 11 years in Rhode Island. More recently my focus has been on organizing NEON Retrofest with co-founder , which is a curated festival of retro-culture, weird synth music, cult film, and classic gaming. I strongly feel that in-person experiences are just as important as online ones, and necessary for a healthy community of niche hobbyists to thrive. I also tech for local arcades in the Tampa Bay area - keeping these ancient behemoths running against all odds, and am a proud part of TAC, the Tampa Arcade Club, which is a crew of arcade degenerates dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of Japanese arcade cabs and game center history.
